mini-review - Firecracker Follies

Firecracker Follies 2013 is sinfully sizzlingly sensational. All the answers to American history questions you thought you knew ... but were afraid to ask ...and in the basement of a Mexican restaurant, no less!!! There's song, choreography, videos, impersonations, and of course plenty of camp & mischief... and even a new quiz show (pictured below) in which America promotes...and demotes its most/least favorite foreign contestants. Who will win? An Indian against a Latina woman...guess!! James Gray, Eric Seppala, Momma...and Dina Drotar, Chris Pendleton - Funny Fiddle herself as fiddlin' musical director - Rusty Frank, tappin' up a storm ... and Raju and Lupe playing the new quiz show game Storm the Border ... they're all here. Thanks as well to MC Mr. Dan, who is always jolly good fun!

Other highlights: Dina singing "Heatwave" as MM, Katy Perry's "Firework" and as the Theme Park Princess doing "Part of My World", Eric's Sparky with his off-color Pledge of Allegiance and his "Wonder Woman" spin, Rusty...smiling &... tapping, Momma's  picnic feast  "In the Good Old Summertime" and her cookies, and James in full Uncle Sam suit (pictured above). Costumes are incredible - and oh so colorful - and the changes the performers make in lightning speed, including wigs and headgear, almost beat out those in Forbidden Broadway.

Historical characters represented include:
Betsy Ross, Lady Liberty, Mary Todd Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Paul Revere, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright Brothers, Lewis and Clark and many, many more like you've never seen them before in full dazzling splendor via the crazy imagination of James Gray. On the realistic side, Chris plays her grandfather's violin - now that's an example of history up close and personal! There's Momma's Singalong too, so you can scream out to all your favorite patriotic songs like "This Land Is My Land", remember that one?! Where else can you have so much fun over a holiday weekend? Remember, you can get burned in backyard barbecues and firework displays!!! It's not worth the pain...so, go on down instead to Silverlake...Casita del Campo...Cavern Club Theater...
