1) What event or speech in this act made the strongest impression on you? Why?
>The event that had the strongest impression on me was when John Proctor confessed his sin because I didn't think he would do that. This shows how much he cares for Elizabeth.
Comprehension Check)
- Mary Warren says that the girls are pretending to be possessed.
- John Proctor admits to committing adultery.
- John Proctor is arrested because his confession was not the same as Elizabeth's and Abigail's, therefore he is "lying".
2) Why do you suppose Mary Warren changes her testimony at the end of this act?
> I think Mary Warren finally had the courage to tell the truth about the girls lying and going against Abigail.
> Elizabeth wants to protect John from being punished that is why she lied to Danforth.
8) Judging from your reading of the Salem court documents earlier in the unit, how accurately do you think Arthur Miller portrays the court proceedings? Discuss any additional insights you have gained about the participants' behavior.
> Arthur Miller did a pretty good job portraying the court proceedings. He included that a person could be accused of witchcraft just because someone else said so. Most of the characters in the story just gave depositions. In other words, not much evidence was used to accuse someone of witchcraft. For example, how Abigail and the girl are accusing mostly everyone just with some ridiculous statements. But, the only thing that Arthur Miller has not portrayed was the burning at the stakes. The only thing he has included was that everyone accused was either killed or sent to jail. Overall, the trials from the book are mostly accurate to the Salem court document I read earlier in the unit.
